In this audio podcast, wisely all about appearance and visuals, Rachel and Will discuss their relationship with fashion and style as seriously as they can while still covering Will's previous "green frilly silk shirt" phase, his current ""having style" phase, and Rachel's upcoming "hot Judy Garland" phase. Also going on in this episode are lively discussions of the differences between fashion and style and how your style represents you, and a "wrap up" section with what is best described as an extended coda, featuring talk of Will's mom's leather pants from 1970 and the LA women's style advice of Nightsound Show Correspondent Molly. Rachel is at one point overcome by a coughing fit, if you're into that sort of thing. Rachel interviews the band Animal Alphabet. As they play live, Will wrangles the first live on-the-air full-band mix job the Nightsound Show has seen in a long time--maybe ever? Heck if I know. The band is asked about their Googleability, being compared to other bands, and also things normal people talk about, like the band's formation and songwriting. They play a gig tonight at the Pinhook! If tonight is March 24th, 2012, which it is as of this writing. Hosts Rachel and Will talk about the holidays, and because it's best to be surrounded by friends during the holidays, all of our friends call in. Ben talks gift giving, good, bad, and junky; Andy talks about his time in the big red suit (and HO HO HOs for us!); Molly, who never believed in the big red suit, talks Judaism at the holidays. We determine that if you're stressed about Christmas, you're doing it wrong. This slightly-longer-than-usual episode does include a very special report on Ramadan, which is not really one of these winter holidays these days since it is not in the winter these days. Chris asks, "Do we do an intro still?" Jenn and Andy agree that we should. Is it possible to go caroling without pissing someone off? Chris and Andy "agree violently" on the The War on Christmas. Does our holiday party need more Jesus in it? Do atheists need to lighten up? Can we celebrate in a way that is both secular and inclusive? "It is a battle of FOUR ARMIES!" Look out for dolphin rape! Music by Dan Datiles, Alex Michaud, Future Kings of Nowhere, Davis Cohen, and Sara Goss. We appreciate your input! Put it in! We appreciate it! |

Rachel and Will slather gender issues with their enormous paintbrushesque tongues to cover topics like gender reassignment surgery (aka a “sex change”), including the ethics, history, their international appeal, and how penises can be built out of PURE SCIENCE; how Will is a feminist; why Will no longer wishes he could be a stay-at-home dad; and women with power, from world rulers to Lynndie England. We stumble onto a "great truth," that men need a room full of beer to be happy. Nicole calls in because she is a sexpert. Molly calls in to talk about how advertising is terrible at gender issues.
